Dear ACT Patrons & Supporters,
ACT is known for producing plays that speak to the heart of our times through relevant themes and thought-provoking narratives. We believe that every individual is entitled to cultural and creative experiences regardless of income, education, age, geographic location, and accessibility needs.
On the King County Primary Ballot you will have an opportunity to vote on Prop 1: Access for All, a county wide sales tax of .01% that would be distributed to arts, cultural, science, and heritage organizations specifically to increase services across the county. That is one penny for every ten dollars spent. The largest portion of funds is dedicated to serving public schools in every district in the county and additional funds will go towards programs for seniors, low income families, and people with special needs.
Upon passing, ACT will expand our Young Playwrights Program directly to schools outside of Seattle and we will have resources to also offer transportation to our venue
from those outlying communities for field trips to the theatre. We will create opportunities for theatre and arts administration jobs for diverse communities; provide programs, tours, and partnerships across the county; increase our services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Blind and Visually Impaired, and Mobility Impaired persons; AND we will add even more free and low-cost performances.
Denver, Colorado has had a similar initiative in place since 1989 and voters have reauthorized it multiple times. I worked in the arts in Denver from 2002-2008 and I know first-hand the positive impact that public support can have on a community. It’s incredible to see the opportunities and enhanced quality of life that exist as a result of increased access to arts, science, and heritage programs.
In order to guarantee the success of Prop 1, Access for All, we need the support of our patrons and supporters on the upcoming August ballot (mailed July 12). Please vote YES on Prop 1 to create an infusion of cultural experiences in King County that will have a dramatic impact on the quality of life in our region.
Thank you for your support,
ACT Theatre’s Managing Director
PS: Ballots were mailed July 12. Please vote Yes on Prop. 1 and return your ballot before August 1! Visit culturalaccesswa.org for more info.
